Across the Irish Sea, In & Out of Wales, on our way to Salisbury

An early and rather wet (the ‘softness’) start to the day but some Tim’s put the right spin on the day.  Loaded on to the Dublin to Holyhead ferry, the Jonathan Swift for 8:45 AM departure. The aptly named ship was a catamaran and made the crossing in less than two hours.  Dead calm and very comfortable.  Met Selena from Victoria, B.C, a Killick off the H.M.C.S. OTTAWA.  She is backpacking around the British Isles & Europe with a Yank out of L.A. (nice guy named Ryan). Had a great visit, ribbing each about the Lions and the Riders as well as the east versus the west coast. Gave them some tips for their visit in London and around Europe.

Conveniently the Holyhead train station was attached to the ferry terminal. We met several people as we travelled to Newport S.Wales. One man we met, Gareth, was from a Welsh community that has 58 letters, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch - what a mouth full!!!!! What a hoot! Changed trains in Newport to get to Salisbury by 7:50 p.m. Once we got out of Holyhead, the sun blazed all day, certainly in the high 20s  – the scenery was rolling and green.  We even saw swimming in the adjacent rivers / lakes.

Found our hotel, the Red Lion (opened 1256), lovely room.  Checked in, made plans for our excursions for the next couple of days, had a bite to eat. Covered over 650 km via taxi, ferry & train.  Long day – really went rather well.
