Last Day in London

Our day began with a Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre tour and museum visit. Very impressive, it is an open yard, thatched roof replica of the theatre during the early 1600s.

We strolled along the river then toured Tower Bridge – walked above the roadway on closed in walkways – saw the old stream piston - hydraulic counter-balanced system that lifted the bridge which was opened in 1894 – now replaced with electricity that drives the hydraulic system.

Next we had the most amazing retired Royal Marine (Barney) as a guide in the Tower of London where so many British traitors were beheaded. The Crown Jewels are housed / secured there now and we had the chance to see them – lots of shiny bits (haha).

Had a quick walk through the National Gallery – thousands of masterpieces.  Simply breathtaking.  Finished our day off with a British pub favorite, Steak and Ale pie and a beer at the Golden Lion, just off Piccadilly Circus.

Busy day – back to B&B to pack as we are off to Edinburgh tomorrow.
More to follow …
