More of the Highlands

Tuesday we left Laggan Gaskmore Lodge and made our way to Culloden - the final battle of the Jacobite uprising in 1746. Chris could have spent an entire day here but we only had 1.5 hours. The history of Great Britain, Europe and indeed the world turned on the events of that fateful afternoon, 16 April 1746.

Next stop was Loch Ness - unfortunately we did not get a glimpse at Nessie - lovely view none the less.

Lunch stop was at a weaving mill, museum, shopping.

Made our way up the rugged Scottish coastline and into the Viking territory. Visited the Castle of Mey where the Queen Mom had a wee castle as a summer home. A real look into the family life of a grand Lady.

Travelled to Thurso to stay at Rail Station Hotel. Lovely spot, friendly staff, wonderful meals.  A busy, memorable day.

More to follow …
